गीता सार, हिंदी में - Geeta Saar in Hindi with English Translation

(Bhagwat Geeta is the greatest book of Hindu Philosophy. Here below is the brief essence of the Philosophy of Bhagwat Geeta. Teachings of Bhagwat Geeta were given by Lord Krishna, the God Himself to his disciple Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra in Haryana State of India. These teachings were given more than 5000 years ago but these are still relevant today in our lives. )
  • (Whatever happened in the past, it happened for the good; Whatever is happening, is happening for the good; Whatever shall happen in the future, shall happen for the good only. Do not weep for the past, do not worry for the future, concentrate on your present life.)
  • (What did you bring at the time of birth, that you have lost? What did you produce,  which is destroyed? You didn't bring anything when you were born. Whatever you have, you have received it from the God only while on this earth. Whatever you will give, you will give it to the God. Everyone came in this world empty handed and shall go the same way. Everything belongs to God only.)
  • आज जो कुछ आप का है,  पहले किसी और का था और भविष्य में किसी और का हो जाएगा. परिवर्तन संसार का नियम है.
  • (Whatever belongs to you today, belonged to someone else earlier and shall belong to some one else in future. Change is the law of the universe.)
  • (You are an indestructible Soul & not a body. Body is composed of five elements - Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Sky; one day body shall perish in these elements.)
  • (Soul lives forever even after death as soul is never born & never dies. So Why do you worry unnecessarily? What are you afraid of? Who can kill you?)
  • केवल सर्वशक्तिमान ईश्वर के लिए अपने आप को समर्पित करो.  जो भगवान का सहारा लेगा, उसे हमेशा भय, चिंता और निराशा से मुक्ति मिलेगी.
  • (Devote yourself to the Almighty God only. One who takes the support of God, always gains freedom from fear, worry and despair.)

When God walks Side by Side With You

In Bhagwat Gita Lord Krishna has given a promise that He is always with His devotees. Whosoever, worships Him with true heart, He is always with that person. But it is our mind only that is not having complete faith in Him & His powers. We do not actually know how resourceful & powerful God is & that He can take care of all of our problems. It's only that we should have unswerving faith in Him. If we do have such faith in Him & always think of Him, pray Him, then there is no chance that He shall not be with you always & in times of your adversity. Recently I was listening to a devotional song / bhazan by Sh. Vinod Aggarwal Ji in which he was describing about the story of a person, who wanted to test his faith in God - Lord Krishna, whether or not God is always with him. Story goes like this:

Once there was a devotee of Lord Krishna who always used to have faith in the powers of the God & always used to pray Him in his mind. That person was very rich. That person prayed to God & asked the God that I love you, pray you, adore you so much but how come I am to know that You are with me & shall protect me in all circumstances.

God told him, "You see, you daily goes for a morning walk by the bank of the river. Now onwards I shall walk by your side, whenever, you shall go for the morning walk."

Next day that person went for the morning walk but could not see anybody over there. When he came back from the morning walk, he started complaining to God, "As promised, You have not come to my side when I went for the morning walk. God, I could not see You during my morning walk."

God said to him, "I have come during your morning walk but with these eyes you could not see Me".

Devotee, "O God, then how am I to know that You are with me?"

God said to him, " See, whenever you walk by the side of the river, you normally see only two footsteps of yours. Now ,whenever, you see four footsteps instead of two, just think that I am walking by you."

It started happening that way only & that person always saw four footsteps & felt happy & confident that God is with him & walking by him.

Life is the name of change. Now the times changed & with the quirk of fate, somehow that person lost his wealth & got poor. When the wealth was gone, all his near & dear ones turned their faces away from that person. He started to feel very lonely but was confident that in all these times of adversity, though all his near & dear ones, friends & relatives have left him but at least his revered God-Lord Krishna is with him. That person still used to go for the morning walk. But surprisingly during these times of adversity he again started seeing only two footsteps instead of four, during his walk by the river. Now that person was very surprised that his revered, lovable God too has left him during the adverse times. He started regretting & crying but ultimately said in his mind, "Let it be the will of God, what he can do?"

Life for that man went on like that only & with time, again his times changed & he once again became rich & prosperous. But now when he went to the morning walk by the side of the river he again started seeing four footsteps instead of two. Now he got impatient & complained to God that this is not fair.

He said to God, "It's all right that in my adverse times all my near & dear ones had left me but how come that You too, who always promised me to be with me, too had left me in my adverse times. God, how come that You leave your devotee in his bad times?"

Now God could not keep His silence & told that person, "O My Dear one, in your times of adversity the two footsteps that you saw were not yours but these were of Him."
That man said, "How can it be that those footsteps were Yours & not mine?"

God said, "O My Dear one, in your times of adversity, YOU WERE IN MY LAP & I ALWAYS WALKED TAKING YOU IN MY LAP ONLY. In such a condition how can your footsteps be there on the bank of the river. Those two footsteps in your adverse times were mine only. Now your good time has come so now once again I shall be separate from you & shall always walk by your side."

In Bhagwat Gita Lord Krishna tells Arjuna to always have faith in Him only as, whosoever, keeps faith in Lord Krishna, He always protects that devotee.

"ananyas cintayanto mam
ye janah paryupasate
tesham nityabhiyuktanam
yoga-ksemam vahamy aham" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Nine verse 22)

"Lord Sri Krishna says to Arjuna: But those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental form—to them I carry what they lack, and I preserve what they have."

"ananya-cetah satatam
yo mam smarati nityasah
tasyaham sulabhah partha
nitya-yuktasya yoginah" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Eight verse 14)

"Lord Sri Krishna says: Whosoever, always & constantly remembers Me with undivided mind; by that person, I am easy to obtain, O Arjuna, because of his constant engagement in the devotional service to Me."

God is Almighty, Who is sitting in your heart

God is sitting in your heart. Do you have complete Faith in this line? If a saint tells you that God is almighty & is present everywhere in this world & even all around you, then you may not have that complete Faith in his words. If scriptures tell you that God has created all this world then you may not have that complete Faith in it. How is it that people can put Faith in all type of people & things of the world but cannot have faith in the words of a saint?

Faith is the one which makes our perceptions & beliefs. If you have Faith in & believe in religious scriptures, words of a saint, then you shall be able to turn toward the God. It's Faith only which determines how you can mould your life. It shall be Good if you have Faith in the words of a saint or in religious books than you have Faith in people who indulge in gambling, betting etc. Choice is yours!!!!!

Below are few verses of Bhagwat Gita on Faith:

asraddadhanah purusha
dharmasyasya parantapa
aprapya mam nivartante
mrityu-samsara-vartmani (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Nine verse 3)

"Sri Krishna said to Arjuna: Those who are not Faithful in this devotional service, cannot attain Me, O Arjuna. Therefore they return to the path of birth and death in this material world."

"ye me matam idam nityam
anutishthanti manavah
shraddhavanto ’nasuyanto
mucyante te ’pi karmabhih" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Three verse 31)

"Sri Krishna said to Arjuna: Those persons who execute their duties according to My injunctions and who follow this teaching faithfully, without envy, become free from the bondage of the fruitive actions, gets liberated & come to Me."

"shraddhaval labhate jnanam
tat-parah samyatendriyah
jnanam labdhva param shantim
acirenadhigacchati" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Four verse 39)

"Sri Krishna said to Arjuna: A faithful man who is dedicated to transcendental knowledge and who subdues his senses is eligible to achieve such knowledge, and having achieved it he quickly attains the God & spiritual peace."

"tad-buddhayas tad-atmanas
tan-nisthas tat-parayanah
gacchanty apunar-avrttim
jnana-nirdhuta-kalmasah" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Five verse 17)

"Sri Krishna said to Arjuna: When one’s Intelligence, Mind, Faith and refuge are all fixed in the God, then one becomes fully cleansed of misgivings through complete knowledge and thus proceeds straight on the path of liberation."

"yoginam api sarvesam
mad-gatenantar-atmana
shraddhavan bhajate yo mam
sa me yuktatamo matah" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Six verse 47)

"Sri Krishna said to Arjuna: And of all yogis, the one with great Faith who always abides in Me, thinks of Me within himself, and renders transcendental loving service to Me—he is the most intimately united with Me in yoga and is the highest of all. That is My opinion."

"sri-bhagavan uvacha
mayy avesya mano ye mam
nitya-yukta upasate
shraddhaya parayopetas
te me yuktatama matah" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Twelve verse 2)

"Sri Krishna said to Arjuna: O Arjuna, Those who fix their minds on My personal form and are always engaged in worshiping Me with great and transcendental faith are considered by Me to be most perfect."

"ye tu dharmamritam idam
yathoktam paryupasate
sraddadhana mat-parama
bhaktas te ’tiva me priyah" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Twelve verse 20)

"Sri Krishna said to Arjuna: O Arjuna, Those who follow this imperishable path of devotional service and who completely engage themselves with faith, making Me the supreme goal, are very, very dear to Me."

God is always around us & all the time

God remains with us all the time & is always around us. He remains with us everywhere, wherever we go. Just like space, always remains with us, wherever we go, similarly, God remains with us,  wherever we go. He is a constant companion of us. Only we need to realize His presence.

God is all merciful & His Divine grace or Blessing or 'Kripa' (कृपा) can happen on all of us anywhere & everywhere. God is present everywhere i.e. He is omnipresent & is present at all places, all the times. He is there within your house, your living room & your place of worship. So it is not necessary to go to some outside place of worship only to find God but you can worship & get His Blessings within your home only. Below verse of Bhagwat Gita explains His omnipresent nature.

sarvatah pani-padam tat
sarvato ’ksi-siro-mukham
sarvatah shrutimal loke
sarvam avrtya tishthati (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Thirteen verse 14)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, Everywhere are His (God's) hands and feet, His eyes, heads and faces, and He has ears everywhere. In this way the Super Soul exists, pervading everything in this world."

So just have faith in God & get the mercy of God within your home only. God's merciful hand shall extend to your house if you show devotion in Him. When His grace shall happen then God shall give you, whatever, you are lacking in life & also shall protect your life & belongings. Then you shall always be protected in life by God. Such type of Special mercy of God shall only happen on you when you shall engage your mind in thinking of God, become God's devotee, offer obeisance's to God and shall always worship Him. Being completely absorbed in God, surely you shall become eligible for God's Special mercy.

Below verses of Bhagwat Gita ensure that only:

"ananyas cintayanto mam
ye janah paryupasate
tesham nityabhiyuktanam
yoga-ksemam vahamy aham" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Nine verse 22)

"Sri Krishna said to Arjuna: But those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental form—to them I carry what they lack, and I preserve what they have."

"sarva-dharman parityajya
mam ekam saranam vraja
aham tvam sarva-papebhyo
mokshayisyami ma suchah"
(Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Eighteen verse 66)

"Sri Krishna said to Arjuna : Abandon all varieties of religion or Setting aside all meritorious deeds, just surrender unto Me. I shall liberate you from all sins. Do not fear."

So just think that God is forever in your heart & shall never give you up or never depart. He is always with you. So always trust in your life that God is near you.

Always be Krishna Conscious

When Prahlada Maharaja met Nrsimhadeva, he said,

naivodvije para duratyaya-vaitaranyas
tvad-virya-gayana-mahamrta-magna-cittah
soce tato vimukha-cetasa indriyarthamaya-
sukhaya bharam udvahato vimudhan

"My dear Lord," Prahlada says, "I am not very anxious for my own deliverance."
"I have no anxiety for myself because somehow or other I have been trained to be always Krishna conscious."
"There is only one source of anxiety for me."
soce tato vimukha-cetasah: "I am anxious for those persons who are not Krishna conscious. That is my anxiety. For myself I have no anxiety, but I am thinking of those who are not Krishna conscious." !!

As per the Bhagwat Gita, devotion is the easiest method to develop "Bhaav" & get close to the God. God himself declares about the glory of devotion in Bhagwat Gita:

"man-mana bhava mad-bhakto
mad-yaji mam namaskuru
mam evaishyasi satyam te
pratijane priyo ’si me" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Eighteen verse 65)

"Sri Krishna says to Arjuna: Always think of Me, become My devotee, worship Me and offer your homage unto Me. Thus you will come to Me without fail. I promise you this because you are My very dear friend."

God is in All Creation & in All Beings

Here below is a beautiful story by Swami Vivekananda.

Once there was a great spiritual master who used to practise meditation in a lonely part of the forest & near the banks of a river. In that place there was a poor cowherd also who was very ignorant man & who used to tend his herd in that forest. He always used to see this spiritual master meditating for hours, practising austerities, living alone & studying scriptures. Somehow cowherd got curious what this spiritual master did, so he came to him and said: "Sir, can you teach me the way to God?" This spiritual master was a very learned, great man, and he replied: "How will you understand God, you are a common cowherd; ignorant one, go home and tend your cows and don't bother your head with such things".

The poor fellow went away, but somehow a real want had come to him. So he could not rest, and he came again to the spiritual master, and said: "Sir, won't you teach me something about God?" Again he was repulsed: "Oh, you ignorant one, what can you understand of God? Go home". But he could not sleep, he could not eat; he must know something about God.

So he came again, and the spiritual master, in order to quiet the man, as he was so insisting, said: "I'll teach you about God".
The man asked: "Sir, what sort of being is God? What is his form? How does he look?"
The spiritual master said: "God is just like the big bull in your herd; that is just God; God has become that big bull".

The man believed him, and went back to his herd, and day and night he took that bull for God, and began to worship it. He brought the greenest grass for that bull, rested close to it, and gave it light, sat near it, and followed it.

Thus days and months and years passed. His whole soul was there. One day he heard a voice, as it were, coming out of the bull. The bull speaks: "My son, my son". "Why, the bull is speaking! No, the bull cannot speak". Again he went away, and sat near meditating in great misery of his heart; he did not know anything. Again he heard the voice coming out of the bull: "My child, my child". He went near but thought: "No, the bull cannot speak".

Then he went back again and sat despondent. Again the voice came and that time he found it out. It was from his own heart. He found that God was in him. Then he learned the wonderful truth of the Teacher of all Teachers: "I am with you always". And the poor cowherd learnt the whole mystery.

Then he goes back to the spiritual master, and when he is at some distance, the spiritual master sees him. The master has been the most learned man in the country, practising austerity for years, meditating, studying, and this cowherd, the ignorant one, never studied a book, never learnt his letters, but he comes, his whole body, as it were, transfigured, his face changed, the light of heaven shining round his face. The spiritual master got up. "What is this change? Where did you get this?"

"Sir, you gave me that".
"How? I told you that about bull in joke".

"But I took it seriously, and I got everything. I prayed for God in the form of that bull, as God is everywhere & in all beings."

So that bull was the God-symbol and that man worshipped the bull as his God-symbol, as God, and he got everything out of it. So that intense love for God, that desire, brings out everything. God is in ourselves, and the external world. God is everywhere. When our desire for God becomes strong, the God within us awakes & shows us His way.

Below are some verses from Bhagwat Gita which illustrates the same:

"aham atma gudakesha
sarva-bhutasaya-sthitah
aham adis cha madhyam cha
bhutanam anta eva cha" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Ten verse 20)

"Sri Krishna said: I am the Super Soul, O Arjuna, seated in the hearts of all living entities. I am the beginning, the middle and the end of all beings."

"adityanam aham vishnur
jyotisam ravir amsuman
maricir marutam asmi
nakshatranam aham sasi" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Ten verse 21)

"Sri Krishna said: Of the Adityas I am Vishnu, of lights I am the radiant sun, of the Maruts I am Marici, and among the stars I am the moon."

"sarganam adir antas cha
madhyam chaivaham arjuna
adhyatma-vidya vidyanam
vadah pravadatam aham" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Ten verse 32)

"Sri Krishna said: Of all creations I am the beginning and the end and also the middle, O Arjuna. Of all sciences I am the spiritual science of the self, and among logicians I am the conclusive truth."

"yac chapi sarva-bhutanam
bijam tad aham arjuna
na tad asti vina yat syan
maya bhutam characharam" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Ten verse 39)

"Sri Krishna said: Furthermore, O Arjuna, I am the generating seed of all existences. There is no being—moving or nonmoving—that can exist without Me."

Soul in this Body makes it Alive

We love any human being till breath runs through the nostrils. Once breath stops coming in the body then we don't have same affection with that person. Now why do we love our near & dear ones? Why it is that we love human beings in general? These are the same human bodies which if once dead are not loved the same way, when these are alive. What is there in these bodies which make these so lovable when these are breathing through the nostrils? Once it stops breathing, the same body is not that lovable.

The only answer to this is that there is someone besides this body, in the body, which makes it so lovable, otherwise how it is that this body of five nature elements seems so attractive & lovable. Yes, there is some other thing in this body which makes it so lovable & that thing is divine Soul. This divine Soul is nothing but a spark of universal omnipresent Soul, the Almighty God. All human beings are lovable due to the presence of this divine Soul in the body. All attractions in the body are due to this divine Soul only. Once this divine Soul leaves this body, it is called death of that body & all attractions, all love departs with the Soul.

God himself says in the Bhagwat Gita that He Himself resides in the heart of all human beings. Below verse explains that:

"ishvarah sarva-bhutanam
hrd-dese ’rjuna tishthati
bhramayan sarva-bhutani
yantrarudhani mayaya" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Eighteen verse 61)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, The Lord / Supreme God dwells in the heart of all beings, who are mounted on the automation of this body, causing them by His illusive power of material energy to revolve (according to their actions) and is directing the wanderings of all living entities."

"tam eva saranam gaccha
sarva-bhavena bharata
tat-prasadat param shantim
sthanam prapsyasi sasvatam" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Eighteen verse 62)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, surrender unto God fully. By His grace you will attain transcendental peace and the supreme and eternal abode."

Bhagwat Gita Quotes

BELOW IS A VIDEO HAVING SOME OF THE FAMOUS QUOTES FROM BHAGWAT GITA:

Jai Shri Krishna

Have Firm Faith in God without any Doubt

Once there were four disciples of a spiritual Guru. Three of the disciples always used to spend all of their time in debating and talking about the existence of God & all types of intellectual pursuits. Fourth one was a simple man who had great faith in God & always used to sweep the floors of the temple. At the end, this simple man got enlightenment first. At this the intellectual disciples asked their Guru how come the simple man got enlightenment first. At that their Guru responded, "When he was sweeping the temple floor, he was also sweeping the corners of his mind of all doubts". His firm faith in God without any doubt is the reason that he is able to attain to enlightenment first.

Doubt is a feeling of uncertainty about the truth, reality or distrust of anything. In spiritualism doubt is just opposite of the Faith. Faith in God as the Supreme reality is the essence of any religion.
If you have doubt in the existence of God & do not consider Him the all powerful one, who has created this universe & it's creation, then you are not the Faithful one. In one's life, Faith in God gives us a direction in understanding this universe & it's people, while doubt creates uncertainty, distrust & disbelief in life.

If you do not have faith in God then you cannot believe in the words of God. Such doubting person cannot find peace in life & cannot attain to Divine consciousness. Doubting soul finds happiness neither in this world nor in the next, while the faithful one's attain peace & reach to God easily. Below verse of Bhagwat Gita explains that only.

"ajnas chasraddadhanas cha
samsayatma vinasyati
nayam loko ’sti na paro
na sukham samsayatmanah" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Four verse 40)

"Sri Krishna said: But ignorant and faithless human beings who doubt the revealed scriptures do not attain God consciousness; they fall down. For the doubting soul there is happiness neither in this world nor in the next."

Serve God in your mind by thinking & loving Him in your mind

“Once there was a very poor devotee of the Lord. He wanted to serve the Lord but he was not having any money with him to buy something which he could offer to the Lord. In his dismay he said to the Lord, “I am so poor Lord that I do not have even simple food to serve you”.

On this Lord told him to offer Him some water only. Somehow there was no water also available with Him at that time so he showed his inability to serve water also to the Lord. On this, Lord asked him to serve Him with simple leaves of a tree but he could not even bring the leaves to the Lord as had got hurt in his leg & could not walk. On this, Lord told him to “Serve Him in his mind only by thinking & loving the Lord in his mind”. So the devotee thought of Lord & prayed Him in his mind with great Love & Lord became very happy with him.”

In Bhagwat Gita also Lord says that:

"patram puspam phalam toyam
yo me bhaktya prayacchati
tad aham bhakty-upahrtam
asnami prayatatmanah" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Nine verse 26)

"Sri Krishna said: If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit or even water, I will accept it."

"yat karosi yad asnasi
yaj juhosi dadasi yat
yat tapasyasi kaunteya
tat kurusva mad-arpanam" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Nine verse 27)

"Sri Krishna said: Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform—do that, O Arjuna, as an offering to Me."

In Bhagwat Gita also Lord say that:

"tasmat sarveshu kaleshu
mam anusmara yudhya ca
mayy arpita-mano-buddhir
mam evaishyasy asamsayah" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Eight verse 7)

"Sri Krishna said: Therefore, Arjuna, you should always think of Me in the form of God and at the same time carry out your prescribed duty of fighting. With your activities dedicated to Me and your mind and intelligence fixed on Me, you will attain Me without doubt."

So lets always think of Lord Krishna and do our prescribed duty. By doing so we shall always dwell our mind in the God. Living in this way we shall always be happy & in the end go to the Lord’s place where we shall get a blissful life forever.

Splendor of Sun comes from God

God is all powerful. He is almighty. He is the Lord of the Universe. Supreme God "Lord Krishna" Himself declares in Bhagwat-Gita that He himself is there as Splendor or Brilliance or Radiance of Sun.

God is present in all creation as His spark of brilliance is present in all the creation.

"yada aditya-gatam tejo
jagad bhasayate ’khilam
yac chandramasi yac chagnau
tat tejo viddhi mamakam" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Fifteen verse 12)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, The splendor of the Sun, which dissipates the darkness of this whole world, comes from Me. And the splendor of the moon and the splendor of fire are also from Me."

God Takes Care of His Devotees - Yoga-Ksemam Vahamyaham

"In ancient India there was a king. In his kingdom there was a learned man who was very knowledgeable about Bhagavat Gita. Once he came to the court of King & offered the King to give him a talk on any verse of Bhagavat Gita. The king asked the learned man to explain the meaning of *Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Nine verse 22, selected by the king at random. The learned man spent lot of time explaining the meaning of the verse and the king did not point out any deficiency.
Neither of them spoke for a while. Then the king said: “O learned man, you did well. But that is not all that I expected. Study Bhagavat Gita again and come back after few days.” Learned man, bowed in reverence. After few days learned man again came to the king. King told him to explain the same Chapter Nine verse 22 as was chosen on previous occasion. The learned man did his best this time too.

King & the learned man were silent for a while. King asked the learned man “What were you thinking of after finishing your lecture up to this moment?” Learned man said “I was thinking what will be the result this time and what rewards I may receive.” King was much pleased with his honesty. King told him “I don’t doubt your ability. Krishna says that He will take care of the material and spiritual needs of those who constantly think of Him, without thinking of anything else. But you only thought of your reward. So, you did not trust Him!

A learned man like you should perform action without having any concern for the result. Any praise or reward from a king is also immaterial”

So If a person has the above said assurance of the God, then one should make a resolve that one shall not let God slip out of his/her mind till he/she lives on this earth. Do not let anything else take control of your mind & let God be always on your mind. By doing so God shall always be with you in all of your circumstances & shall protect you always from all troubles of life. Then God shall be your Savior always.
