Prayers & Seeds are Similar in Nature

Prayers & Seeds are similar in nature. Both have nothing within but both have the power & potential of creating everything.

Prayer is an act of addressing the God for the purpose of worship or petition. Prayer is a way of having a personal experience and intimate connection with our loving God.

You should treat God just like your friend who knows everything about you. You can then count on your friend (God) all the time. Anytime you need Him, you can call and He won’t be upset with you. He is willing to listen to you and responds with love and concern all the time. The method of such calling your friend (God) is PRAYER. Rest assured that God is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all through the year.

In Bhagwat Gita also Lord says that "Praying the God is the best form of rememberance of God".

"man-mana bhava mad-bhakto
mad-yaji mam namaskuru
mam evaishyasi satyam te
pratijane priyo ’si me" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Eighteen verse 65)

"Lord Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, Always think of Me, become My devotee, worship Me and offer your homage unto Me. Thus you will come to Me without fail. I promise you this because you are My very dear friend."

Below are some beautiful quotes about the Prayer:

God looks not at the oratory of your prayers, how elegant they may be; nor at the geometry of your prayers, how long they may be; nor at the arithmetic of your prayers, how many they may; not at logic of your prayers, how methodical they may be; but the sincerity of them He looks at. -T. Brooks

Practice in life whatever you pray for, and God will give it to you more abundantly. -Pusey

We don't thank God enough for much that He has given us. Our prayers are too often the beggar's prayer, the prayer that asks for something. We offer too few prayers of thanksgiving and of praise. -Robert E. Woods, D.D.

If you would have God hear you when you pray, you must hear Him when He speaks. He stops His ears against the prayers of those who stop their ears against His laws. -unknown

In prayer it is better to have a heart without words, than words without a heart. -Bunyan

Never think that God's delays are God's denials. True prayer always receives what it asks, or something better. -Tryon Edwards

So if you daily do regular prayers to God then your anger shall always remain in your control. But if you get angry then you should do some prayer to God as by doing so you shall be able to manage your anger. So let's daily do the worship of God. By chanting the "Divine Mantras" we shall get peace of mind. Let's make it a practice to invoke the God daily through the prayer. By doing so God shall be happy with us & shall bless us always through His mercy & compassion.

Your Mind in Anger is like a ‘Raging Bull’

Once a bull escaped from a nearby cattle herd & entered the city. On seeing the mob inside the city it became violent & rushed helter-skelter in between the mob. In this process bull ran down many people & injured them badly. It was tried by many people to capture the bull but all in vain & it ran here & there damaging the property. Then one strong bullfighter was called & the bull was captured. A strong thick rope was put around it's neck & it was tied to a post. Hereafter all the pell-mell ended.

The above story is depicted here to understand the state of our mind in philosophy. Human mind is very fickle & it runs from one object to the other. In this process, mind too sometimes gets violent & anger is expressed in our nature. In the state of anger we too hurt many by speaking angry words. When anger gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems for oneself, as well as, for others. In the state of anger we are at the mercy of an unpredictable and powerful emotion which if not controlled does harm only. If anger is not controlled it can lead to physiological, as well as, psychological problems for you.

Now how can we control this anger? Basically, to control anger is to first control & calm your mind. If your mind remains in a state of calm then no negative emotions can arouse in it. To be peaceful at mind, the easiest way is that we let our mind delve inside our own inner nature rather than hankering after outside worldly objects. If mind continuously runs after worldly things then it gets disturbed when the thing of desire is not attained. When the mind gets disturbed in this way then anger arouses in the mind & it leads to negative consequences only. When you close your eyes in meditation, you start delving inside your inner nature. What is your inner nature? It's nothing but your soul inside where you delve in times of meditation & attain peace. In soul there is peace only. Now your soul is nothing but part & parcel of Universal Soul only. Universal Soul is nothing but God only who is ultimate peace.

In Bhagwat Gita philosophy it is said that the easiest way to control your mind is to tie it to the feet of God. When mind always remains in remembrance of God then it stops hankering after external worldly objects. When external hankering of mind stops then peace itself comes to mind immediately. So our mind is also like a raging bull which if not controlled does damage to oneself, as well as, to others by expressing emotions like anger, jealousy, fear etc. Just like the raging bull was tied to a post with rope & everything became calm, so let your mind be tied to the feet of God so that all your negative emotions arousing in mind come to a peaceful & calm state.

Here below is what Bhagwat Gita teaches about "Mind Control". Mind is that makes the personality of a person. Angry, jealous, fearful, de-motivated mind makes a person depressed one while a peaceful, calm, motivated mind makes a person cheerful. Mind is very powerful one & to control it is just like keeping in control a raging bull. It just wanders like wind here & there & it takes enough of self discipline & practice of meditation to control it. As per "Arjuna" to "Lord Sri Krishna" in Bhagwat Gita Chapter Six verse 34:

"chanchalam hi manah krishna
pramathi balavad drdham
tasyaham nigraham manye
vayor iva su-duskaram"
(Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Six verse 34)

"Arjuna said: For the mind is restless, turbulent, obstinate and very strong, O Krishna, and to subdue it, to control it, I think, is more difficult than controlling the wind."

"sri-bhagavan uvacha
asamsayam maha-baho
mano durnigraham chalam
abhyasena tu kaunteya
vairagyena cha grhyate"
(Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Six verse 35)

"Lord Sri Krishna said: O mighty-armed Arjuna, it is undoubtedly that mind is very difficult to curb & is restless, but it is possible by suitable practices of meditation and by detachment to control it."

Why People Shout When They Are Angry?

Do you know why people get angry in life? Moreover, do you know why people start shouting at each other, while in anger? Here below is an interesting story about that:

“A Hindu saint who was visiting river Ganges to take bath found a group of family members on the banks, shouting in anger at each other. He turned to his disciples, smiled and asked.

'Why do people in anger shout at each other?'

Disciples thought for a while, one of them said, 'Because we lose our calm, we shout.'

'But, why should you shout, when the other person is just next to you? You can as well tell him what you have to say in a soft manner.' asked the saint.

Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the other disciples. Finally the saint explained.

'When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other to cover that great distance.

What happens when two people fall in love? They don't shout at each other but talk softly, because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is either nonexistent or very small...'

The saint continued, 'When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper and they get even closer to each other in their love. Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other and that's all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.'

He looked at his disciples and said.

'So when you argue, do not let your hearts get distant, Do not say words that distance each other more, Or else there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.”

We all know that getting angry is not good in life but all of us get angry at some point of time in life. Why at times, our mind gets violent & anger is expressed in our nature? In a state of anger we hurt our near & dear ones by speaking angry words. When anger gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems for oneself, as well as, for others also. In the state of anger we are at the mercy of an unpredictable and powerful emotion which if not controlled by us does harm only to our life. If anger is not controlled, it can lead to physiological, as well as, psychological problems in our life.

Now how can we control this anger? Basically, to control anger is to first control & calm your mind. If your mind remains in a state of calm then no negative emotions can arouse in it. To be peaceful at mind, the easiest way is that we let our mind delve inside our own inner nature rather than hankering after outside the worldly objects i.e. we should daily do some meditation, as in meditation mind becomes peaceful. If mind continuously runs after worldly things outside then it gets disturbed when the thing of desire is not attained. When the mind gets disturbed in this way then anger arouses in the mind & it leads to negative consequences only. When you close your eyes in meditation, you start delving inside your inner nature. What is your inner nature? It's nothing but your Soul inside, where you delve in times of meditation & attain peace. In Soul, there is peace only. Now your Soul is nothing but part & parcel of Universal Soul only. Universal Soul is nothing but God only, who is ultimate peace.

Below are few verses from Bhagwat Gita which explain why we should avoid anger:

"tri-vidham narakasyedam
dvaram nasanam atmanah
kamah krodhas tatha lobhas
tasmad etat trayam tyajet" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Sixteen verse 21)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, There are three gates leading to the hell — Lust, Anger and Greed. Every sane man should give these up, for they lead to the degradation of the Soul."

"krodhad bhavati sammohah
sammohat smriti-vibhramah
smriti-bhramsad buddhi-naso
buddhi-nasat pranasyati" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Two verse 63)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, Delusion or wild idea arises from anger. The mind is bewildered by delusion. Reasoning is destroyed when the mind is bewildered. One falls down from the right path when reasoning is destroyed."

"kama-krodha-vimuktanam
yatinam yata-cetasam
abhito brahma-nirvanam
vartate viditatmanam" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Five verse 26)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, Those who are free from anger and all material desires, who are self-realized, self-disciplined and constantly endeavoring for perfection, are assured of liberation in the God in the very near future."

"dambho darpo ’bhimanas cha
krodhah parusyam eva cha
ajnanam chabhijatasya
partha sampadam asurim" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Sixteen verse 4)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, Pride, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness and ignorance—these qualities belong to those people who are of demoniac nature."

So, let’s not be angry in life & let's not hurt our near & dear ones by our angry nature. Remaining calm & peaceful in life is a blessing & we should bless others with our peaceful nature. Let’s not disturb anyone’s peace of mind by getting angry with them.

Emotions Are Tricky

Do you know about emotions? Have you ever got emotional? How many types of emotions there are? How these emotions affect our life?

Emotions are basically the waves of feelings that arise in our mind. Due to these emotions our mind feels happy, distressed etc. There are many types of emotions that arise in our mind like love, hate, anger, jealousy, infatuation, fear, grief, compassion, happiness, distress, pain & pleasure etc. Out of these love, compassion, happiness, pleasure etc. are called positive emotions while hate, anger, fear, jealousy, infatuation, grief, distress, pain etc. are called negative emotions.

Emotions are required in our life as without these, one's life is mere mechanical. The difference between a robot & human being is that humans have emotions, feelings while a robot is not having that. Both robot & human being have intelligence but only humans have emotions, feelings etc. in their mind. Emotions make life pleasant, enjoyable unless until these are sensible and within limits. But when emotions are uncontrollable & beyond limits then mental equilibrium of a person is disturbed. Also negative emotions like hate, anger, jealousy, infatuation, grief, etc. destroy one's mental & physical health.

Bhagwat Gita is a great book which teaches us how to control our emotions & how to remain equipoise, calm when such emotions empower our mind. In ancient times "Arjuna" was involved in a war against his enemies (some of them his own relatives too) but he refused to do his duty of fighting a righteous battle as he got infatuated with emotions & started thinking of his enemies as his own near & dear ones. He told his master "Lord Sri Krishna" that he is going away from the war & do not want to fight on the battle field. Arjuna's mental equilibrium became disturbed due to negative emotions & he got deeply depressed. To overcome his disciple Arjuna's depression & to motivate him to fight a righteous war, "Lord Sri Krishna" gave the great teachings of "Bhagwat Gita" to his disciple "Arjuna". After listening to all these great teachings, Arjuna's mental health became well & he became motivated & energetic to fight the war.

As per Bhagwat Gita our true nature is that we are a "Soul" which is beyond mind. "Soul", our true self in this body of ours is a witness to everything while the drama of life with all the emotions in our mind goes on. "Soul" is only a witness & does not take part in this drama of life. All the emotions whether these are positive or negative arise in human mind only & we feel pain, pleasure etc. "Soul" is different from the mind but when we associate our true Soul nature with this mind, we also feel the qualities & emotions of this mind. The real tatva, the "Soul" is Satva & has no body, no mind, no intellect, no ahamkara (ego), no memory & no senses. "Soul" is beyond the body, the senses, the pranas and the four-fold interior substance consisting of the mind, intellect, ego and memory. Emotions are product of Maya; these are simply illusory, transient things & we should not associate our true self ("Soul") with these. We should know ourself to be that "Soul" who is beyond the unreal & should not be affected by the qualities of nature (Maya) which affect our mind.

Below are few verses of Bhagwat Gita which describe the above said:

"na-asato vidyate bhavo
nabhavo vidyate satah
ubhayor api drsto ’ntas
tv anayos tattva-darshibhih" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Two verse 16)

"Sri Krishna said: Arjuna, the unreal has no existence, and the real (soul) never ceases to be; the reality of both has thus been perceived by the seers of the truth."

"maatra-sparshas-tu kaunteya
shitosna-sukha-duhkha-dah
agamapayino-anityas
tams titiksasva bharata" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Two verse 14)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, the contact between the senses & their objects, which give rise to the feelings of heat & cold, happiness and distress, etc. are transitory & fleeting in nature, therefore Arjuna, one should not get swayed by these and one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed by them."

"yam hi na vyathayanty ete
purusham purusharsabha
sama-duhkha-sukham dhiram
so ’mrtatvaya kalpate" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Two verse 15)

"Sri Krishna said: Arjuna, the wise human being to whom pain & pleasure, happiness and distress etc. are alike, and who is not tormented by these contacts i.e. remains steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation & immortality."

So we should not let our mind be swayed with these emotions in our life & in the midst of these emotions we should be rational. It is only when we are carried away with these emotions that we harm ourself or others with anger etc. So let's know our Soul nature which is beyond these emotions. Let's always establish ourself in the Soul nature so that our mind is not swayed with these emotions & is always calm, composed & peaceful.

Praying When Angry Helps to Manage Anger

We all get angry at some point of time in life.
As per one research report it has been found that praying when you are angry could help you manage your anger. The researchers identified that praying when you have been left really angry could also help prevent one from becoming aggressive.

The authors of the research said the findings applied to even non-religious people. A co-author of the study, Brad Bushman who is also the professor of communication and psychology at Ohio State University, said that, “We found that prayer really can help people cope with their anger, probably by helping them change how they view the events that angered them and helping them take it less personally.” Also during one exercise with participants, it was realized that those who prayed showed the lowest level of anger.

Prayer is basically an act of addressing the God with devotion. Prayer can be done during the worship or can be done just silently in our mind. Through prayer we have a personal experience & an intimate connection with our loving God. If we pray to God with sincerity then He shall answer to our prayers immediately.

Love Him, hate Him but don’t ignore Him

In Hindu philosophy it is the ultimate goal of a person to attain the God. For that ascetics do penances & devotees perform rituals in the name of God so that they can come closer to God & finally attain Him. To attain God the easiest way is to have love & devotion to Lord Krishna. Meaning of the name of Krishna is the one who attracts a soul easily & puts that person to His devotion. Krishna is all attractive, that's why He attracts the soul of a person.

Now, it is not only the emotion of love & devotion towards the God by which you can attain Him. As per Bhagwat puran if you are having any emotion, even that of hate towards the God then also you can attain Him. Therefore, whether one's emotions are of constant enmity towards God, of devotion, of fear, of affection or of love towards the God, one is certainly going to attain Him. By having the emotions of love, hatred, fear, affection and devotion towards the God & having the mind absorbed in the Supreme Lord many have given up the sin and thus attained the path of liberation. The gopîs with their love desires towards Lord Krishna, King Kamsa out of fear, S'is'upâla and others out of hatred towards Lord Krishna, many Kings out of kinship, Krishna's family out of affection and many through bhakti have attained the God. So one should fix one's mind on Lord Krishna in any of these ways & he shall attain Him.

In Bhagwat Gita also God himself is giving that assurance:

"man-mana bhava mad-bhakto
mad-yaji mam namaskuru
mam evaishyasi satyam te
pratijane priyo ’si me" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Eighteen verse 65)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, "Be aware of me always, adore me, make every act an offering to me, and you shall come to me; this I (Krishna) promise, for you are dear to me."

"sarva-dharman parityajya
mam ekam saranam vraja
aham tvam sarva-papebhyo
mokshayisyami ma suchah" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Eighteen verse 66)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, "Abandon all supports and look to me for protection. I shall purify you from the sins of the past; you do not grieve."

"So let's always pray to Lord Krishna & let's always engage our mind in devotional service of Him. Let's love the God like "Gopis of Vrindavan" loved Him. If you shall love God a little bit then He shall love you ten folds, as God is hungry of love & devotion only. Other than that let's read religious texts, scriptures & literature regarding the Lord Krishna. Let's always sing His glories so that He can always be merciful on us. If we shall do such devotional service to God then we shall get special mercy of Lord Krishna & we shall be purified of all the sins in our life.

Jai Sri Krishna.

Anger

Once a student came to his Master and complained: "Master, I have an ungovernable temper. I get angry every now & then. How can I control & cure it?"

Master said, "Oh! You have a very strange problem, Just show me & let me see what problem do you have."

Student said "Just now I cannot show it to you."

O.K. "When can you show it to me?" asked the Master.

"It arises unexpectedly," replied the student.

Master said, "Then, it must not be your own true nature. If it were, you could show it to me at any time. When you were born you did not have it, and your parents did not give it to you. Your true nature is Soul nature in which all the calm & peace is there, just think over it."

We all know that getting angry is not good in our life but all of us get angry at some point of time in life. Why at times our mind gets violent & anger is expressed in our nature? In a state of anger we hurt our near & dear one's mind by speaking angry words.

Now how we can control this anger? Basically, to control anger is to first control & calm your mind. If your mind remains in a state of calm then no negative emotions can arouse in it. To be peaceful at mind, the easiest way is that we let our mind delve inside our own inner Soul nature rather than hankering after outside worldly objects i.e. we should daily do some meditation, as in meditation mind becomes peaceful. If mind continuously runs after outside worldly things then it gets disturbed when the thing of desire is not attained.

Below is a verse from Bhagwat Gita which explains why we should avoid anger:

"tri-vidham narakasyedam
dvaram nasanam atmanah
kamah krodhas tatha lobhas
tasmad etat trayam tyajet" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Sixteen verse 21)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, There are three gates leading to the hell — Lust, Anger and Greed. Every sane man should give these up, for they lead to the degradation of the Soul."

So let's avoid arising of negative emotion like anger in our mind. A mind free of anger remains calm & peaceful.

Don't be Angry

We all know that getting angry is not good in life but all of us get angry at some point of time in life. Why at times our mind gets violent & anger is expressed in our nature? In a state of anger we hurt our near & dear one's by speaking angry words. When anger gets out of control and turns destructive, it can lead to problems for oneself, as well as, for others also. Now your Soul is nothing but part & parcel of Universal Soul only. Universal Soul is nothing but God only, who is ultimate peace.

Here below is a beautiful story about Anger Management:

"There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down.

He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there." A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one."

"dhyayato visayan pumsah
sangas tesupajayate
sangat sanjayate kamah
kamat krodho ’bhijayate" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Two verse 62)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, One develops attachment for the sense objects by thinking about the sense objects. Desire for sense objects comes from attachment to them, and anger comes from unfulfilled desires."

So. let's not be angry in our nature & let's not hurt our near & dear one's by our angry nature.

Why we Shout when we are angry?

Today someone sent me an email which explained a beautiful story with a moral which I am reproducing over here. It's so good. So below is the story........

A saint asked his disciples, 'Why do we shout in anger?
Why do people shout at each other when they are upset?”
Disciples thought for a while, one of them said, 'Because we lose our calm, we shout for that.”
'But, why to shout when the other person is just next to you?' asked the saint.
'Isn't it possible to speak to him or her with a soft voice?
Why do you shout at a person when you're angry?'
Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the saint.
Finally he explained, 'When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot.
To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other.
The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other through that great distance.'
Then the saint asked, 'What happens when two people fall in love? They don't shout at each other but talk softly, why?
Because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is very small...'
The saint continued, 'When they love each other even more, what happens?
They do not speak, only whisper and they get even closer to each other in their love.
Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other and that's all.
That is how close two people are when they love each other.'

MORAL: When you argue do not let your hearts get distant, do not say words that distance each other

Raging Bull
