Lord Krishna was Lord Rama in previous Incarnation

Lord Krishna & Lord Rama were incarnations of Lord Vishnu who descended on earth in different times. In Hindu mythology Lord Vishnu is responsible for the preservation or maintenance of this world, so He comes on this earth from His celestial abode (Vaikuntha) from time to time for the establishment of Dharma (righteousness). In such a role He puts law & order in it's place on earth & kills the evil elements in the society. So such a coming on this earth of Lord Vishnu is called descending of an Avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Avatar or Avatara (अवतार, Avatāra), is incarnation of God on earth. It literally means descent (avatarati) and usually implies a deliberate descent from higher spiritual realms to lower realms of existence for special purposes. Lord Sri Krishna was one of those Avatars of Lord Vishnu. In the past there had been so many Avatars of Lord Vishnu. In Lord Sri Krishna's case you can call these as His previous births but with a special purpose to establish Dharma (righteousness) on this earth. Below are verses from Bhagwat Gita which explain that only:

"yada yada hi dharmasya
glanir bhavati bharata
abhyutthanam adharmasya
tadatmanam srjamy aham" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Four verse 7)

"paritranaya sadhunam
vinasaya cha duskritam
dharma-samsthapanarthaya
sambhavami yuge yuge" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Four verse 8)

"Sri Krishna said to Arjuna: Whenever Dharma, or the situation of law and order, is endangered on this world, I incarnate onto this world to re establish Dharma, law and order, and to protect the Sadhus or saints and to destroy the evil elements of the society. I do so appear, millennium after millennium."

So in this way Lord Vishnu. descended on earth in Treta Yuga as Lord Rama & later on in Dwapar Yuga, Lord Vishnu descended on earth as Lord Krishna. In "Treta Yuga" Lord Vishnu appeared as Ramachandra, the prince and king of Ayodhya who killed demon king Ravana. The great epic Ramayana speaks of the glory of the Rama Avatar of Lord Vishnu. However the same Lord Vishnu appeared in "Dwapara Yuga as Lord Krishna along with his brother Balarama" Mahabharata speaks of Balarama and Krishna in detail.

In the "Bhagwat Gita Chapter Ten-Verse 31", "Lord Krishna" himself clearly says that "Among the wielders of weapons, He himself is Lord Rama."

"pavanah pavatam asmi
ramah shastra-bhrtam aham
jhasanam makaras chasmi
srotasam asmi jahnavi" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Ten verse 31)

"Sri Krishna says to Arjuna: Of purifiers I am the wind, of the wielders of weapons I am Rama, of fishes I am the shark, and of flowing rivers I am the Ganges."

So this verse clearly establishes that "Lord Rama" & "Lord Krishna" are the forms of Supreme God, "Lord Vishnu" only & hence are one & the same one being. So let's worship "Lord Rama" & "Lord Krishna" equally as both are incarnations of "Lord Vishnu" who came to this earth in different point of times in history to help the humanity.

Ram – The Supreme God & The Son Of King Dashrath

There is many times the debate; whether Ram, the son of King Dashrath was a normal human being or He was the real Supreme God who is eternal, ever-existing, infinite, omnipresent and primeval? Let’s see what Bhagwat Gita & other religious books say about that.

In Bhagwat Gita Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that:

"yada yada hi dharmasya
glanir bhavati bharata
abhyutthanam adharmasya
tadatmanam srjamy aham" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Four verse 7)

"Sri Krishna said: Whenever and wherever there is a decline in virtue/religious practice, O Arjuna, and a predominant rise of irreligion—at that time I descend Myself the Lord of the universe, i.e. I manifest Myself as an embodied being."

"paritranaya sadhunam
vinasaya cha duskritam
dharma-samsthapanarthaya
sambhavami yuge yuge" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Four verse 8)

"Sri Krishna said: To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear, millennium after millennium."

So as per Bhagwat Gita the Supreme God, "Lord Vishnu" descends on the earth to deliver mankind from time to time. In "Treta Yuga" or "Treta Millennium" He took the form of "Lord Rama" & in "Dwapra Yuga" or "Dwapra Millennium" He took the form of "Lord Krishna". So the Supreme God, "Lord Vishnu" descends on the earth from time to time as Avatars & hence both "Lord Rama" & "Lord Krishna" are the forms of Supreme God only.

In below verse, Lord Sri Krishna fully establishes that He Himself is Lord Rama also who is the wielder of weapons like bow & arrow:

Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Ten verse 31:

In the Ramayana also it is said time & again that Lord Vishnu only incarnated as Lord Rama as the son of King Dashrath in the "Treta Yuga" or "Treta Millennium".

In Kabir Ji's Holy Book also Kabir Ji has taken name of Lord Rama many times. Below is a verse from it:

Ek Ram Dashrath ka beta, ek Ram jo ghat ghat mein baitha
Ek Ram ja ka sakal pasaara, ek Ram jo sabse nyaara

Meaning of above verse is:

The one Ram is Dashrath's son, the same Ram abides in every pore of creation
The same Ram created everything, the same Ram is the most unique

So from above verse also it is clear that One Ram who was born as the son of King Dashrath is the one who is Omnipresent God & who sits in each & every atom, pore of this creation. So let’s pray to our Sovereign Lord King who is Sri Ram Chander, the Son of the King Dashrath. Lord Ram alone is the Giver and all creatures are beggars of Him. So the Akaal Purkh who resides in everyone is Sri Ram Chander only who was born to King Dashrath in the "Treta Yuga".

Saint Kabir also says that 'Ram' is the one who is All-pervading Lord. Saint Kabir, always chanted the name of Ram, while in meditation & also kept in mind that the same Ram is the Omnipresent God. So let's worship "Lord Ram" as the incarnation of "Lord Vishnu" & also the Omnipresent God & who sits in each & every atom, pore of this creation, the one who is always all around us.

When Mind & Heart Find Peace in God

We daily face myriads of problems in life that our mind gets disturbed, tense & do not find peace anywhere. In such a situation what should we do? Simple & easiest solution in such a situation is to take refuge in God. Just remember Him with Love & see, your mind shall become peaceful. Here is how a devotee describes such a situation when he comes in refuge of God. He says:

Oh! Lord: Just like a person wandering in the scorching heat of sun, gets peace, after coming under the shade of a tree, the same pleasure my heart has got from, when I came in Your refuge. O my Lord, My mind was always wavering; It was not getting any support & it was just like a boat struggling with waves, not finding the bank of the river. But with your guidance that unsteady & wavering boat of my mind has come to the bank. Oh! God, such a pleasure my heart has got from when I came in Your refuge,

Oh! Lord: When you shower your blessings, fire becomes cool like sandalwood. With your blessings, pitch dark nights glow like full moon nights. Oh! God, as if a desert, thirsty for centuries, gets the message of rainy season, the same pleasure my heart has got from; when I came in Your refuge

Oh! Lord: That path on which one may find You, let me take steps on that, whether it is a path of thorns or flowers, whether that path is dry or wet with the rain. Let me never waver while moving on that path. O Lord, as if somebody is thirsty of water & is fed Nectar, the same pleasure my heart has got from; when I came in Your refuge.

The above lines are basically the English translation of a beautiful Hindi Bhajan. "Suraj Ki Garmi Se Jalte Huay Tan Ko Mil Jaye Taruvar Ki Chhaya" is a great Devotional prayer sung in the praise of Hindu God Rama. It has been sung by "Sharma Bandhus" & they earlier sung it for the Hindi film 'Parinay' which was the first and last playback song of the group. 'Lord Rama' & Bhagwat Gita

'Bhagwat Gita' is one of the most sacred books of Hindus. It contains many paths of spiritual knowledge & various Hindu philosophies. For the first time all these teachings of 'Bhagwat Gita' were given by "Lord Krishna" to His disciple Arjuna on the battle field of Kurukshetra in India. But how these teachings of 'Bhagwat Gita' are related to 'Lord Rama'.

In Hindu religion, "Lord Rama" is a Hindu God & people worship Him as the divine incarnation of the Supreme God, "Lord Vishnu". It is said that "Lord Rama" was born at the time of Demon King Ravan a, when due to Ravana's evil rule, religious practices were on the decline. So to deliver the mankind at that time from evil forces, "Lord Vishnu", who lives on the higher planet in His transcendental form, descended on earth. It is said that Lord Vishnu descended on the earth in the form of "Lord Rama" in "Treta Yuga" or "Treta Millennium".

Also as per the Hindu religion, "Lord Krishna" is a Hindu God & people worship Him as the divine incarnation of the Supreme God, Lord Vishnu. It is said that "Lord Krishna" was born at the time of King Kansa, when due to Kansa's evil rule, religious practices were on the decline. So to deliver the mankind at that time from evil forces, "Lord Vishnu", again descended on the earth. It is said that Lord Vishnu descended on the earth in the form of "Lord Krishna" in "Dwapra Yuga" or "Dwapra Millennium".

The above two paragraphs clearly tell us that Supreme God, "Lord Vishnu" descends on the earth to deliver mankind from time to time. In "Treta Yuga" or "Treta Millennium" He took the form of "Lord Rama" & in "Dwapra Yuga" or "Dwapra Millennium" He took the form of "Lord Krishna". As it is Supreme God, "Lord Vishnu" who descends on the earth from time to time, so both "Lord Rama" & "Lord Krishna" are the forms of Supreme God, "Lord Vishnu" only & hence are one & the same being. As per the Hindu scriptures "Lord Vishnu" shall again descend on the earth in "Kali Yuga" or "Kali Millennium" as "Lord Kalki". Below verses of Bhagwat Gita also establish the
above said facts.

Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Four verse 6:

"ajo ’pi sann avyayatma
bhutanam isvaro ’pi san
prakritim svam adhisthaya

sambhavamy atma-mayaya" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Four verse 6)

"Sri Krishna says to Arjuna: Although I am unborn and My transcendental body never deteriorates, and although I am the Lord of all living entities, I still appear in every millennium in My original transcendental form."

Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Four verse 7:

A Muslim, Christian & Hindu at the Doorstep of God

Once there were three men who were in the search of God. All three were very good friends. One of them was a Hindu, while another one was a Muslim and the third one was a Christian. Hindu used to go to the temple & used to worship his God by doing Puja, Mantra Jaap etc. daily. Similarly the Muslim also used to go to the Mosque & used to do his Namaaz daily, four times a day. Christian too was a very poise man & used to go to the church daily in the morning & evening. He never missed any day when he never prayed to God asking to forgive him if he has done anything wrong in his life.

Days, months & years passed by & these three friends followed continuously, this routine of theirs without fail. They were happy that they were daily praying to their God & living a very poise life. One day while they were discussing the religious matters, Hindu asked the others two, whether they have seen their God. To this they replied that though they are worshipping their God in their own way daily but all these are only prayers to their God & they have never seen their God. Same question Muslim & the Christian asked the Hindu to which he too gave the same answer that though he is worshipping his God with his rituals daily but all these are only age old rituals, prayers & Mantra Jaap etc. & he too has never seen the God.

After this discussion all the three decided that they should do something by which they are able to see the God. They had heard about a wise man who was a real seer & mystic & people used to say that he is the real learned man & he has seen the God. They went to that learned man & showed their respect to him & asked him to train them in his own way so that they were able to see the God just like he has seen.

All three became his disciples. The learned man told the three that doing daily worship to God is good but that can give a person just peace of mind. In this way a person cannot see the God. He told the three that God is just sitting in their heart & the doorstep to the way to God is just between their eyebrows & just above the nose. This is the doorstep of God & if a person meditates regularly while closing his eyes & fixing the mind at that point then they can see the light of God inside their self only.

The three started meditating at the point between their eyebrows daily & their meditation went on deep & strong day by day. One day they saw the divine light within their body. That light was so peaceful & full of bliss. Now they were able to talk daily to God while in meditation. So what the three could not achieve while doing daily rituals of their religions, they were easily able to achieve just by meditating & finding the God within their body only. In Bhagwat Gita also God clearly tells that:

"ishvarah sarva-bhutanam
hrd-dese ’rjuna tishthati......

The Lord / Supreme God resides in the heart of all beings....O Arjuna

Antaryami - God is in Your Heart

In your hectic day to day life, you are very busy with your work & home life. You have not gone to the temple for quite some time. You used to visit the temple earlier routinely but now you are missing that very badly. You plan to visit the temple today evening. You want to see your revered God once again in the temple. You go to the temple in the evening & feel happy to be back in the temple once again. But Lo! when you come before your revered God, You close your eyes. Why have you closed your eyes when your revered God is in front of you? You were so eager to see your God but now why have you closed your eyes & started praying in your mind? Don't you want to see the face of your God with open eyes who is there in front of you?

Why do people close their eyes & start praying with closed eyes when they are in front of their revered God in the temple or church? Simple answer to this is that they feel God much closer to their heart inside themself than in the standstill figure or statue in the temple or church. Yes, God is there in your heart who is sitting silently over there watching you & your actions. This aspect of God is called "Antaryami".

"Antaryami means the one who can observe & know every thing of your heart without you being explaining anything to Him. So God is called Antaryami as we need not explain to Him about any of our problems. In this aspect He is Antaryami & He knows what we want."

Below verses of Bhagwat Gita explain this aspect of God only:

"jyotisam api taj jyotis
tamasah param ucyate
jnanam jneyam jnana-gamyam
hridi sarvasya visthitam" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Thirteen verse 18)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, He is the source of light in all luminous objects. He is beyond the darkness of matter and is un-manifested. He is knowledge, He is the object of knowledge, and He is the goal of knowledge. He is situated in everyone’s heart."

"ishvarah sarva-bhutanam
hrd-dese ’rjuna tishthati
bhramayan sarva-bhutani
yantrarudhani mayaya" (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Eighteen verse 61)

"Sri Krishna said: O Arjuna, The Lord / Supreme God dwells in the heart of all beings, who are mounted on the automation of this body, causing them by His illusive power of material energy to revolve (according to their actions) and is directing the wanderings of all living entities."

So when God is there in your heart in "Antaryami" aspect then you can always find daily some time from your daily routine & can pray to Him in your home only, while closing your eyes, sitting in a lonely peaceful place. Daily praying to Him like this shall make you more peaceful & shall make you feel more closer to God. A deer who is having the Kasturi (Musk) in his body only, searches for the cause of fragrance all over there in the wild, while that sweet fragrance is coming from the inside of his body only. Same is the case with us that we are searching for the God outside ourselves while He is sitting in our heart only.
